The free outdoor Lole/Fitist yoga class is clearly a group affair.
POGO A GO-GO
This weekend it’s okay to feel jumpy. The 10th annual Pogopalooza is bouncing into the Big Apple.
Extreme pogo jumpers from across the globe kick things off on Friday, with exhibitions at city landmarks all day. Pogo daredevils will try breaking Guinness World Records, like the most consecutive backflips (15) or most jumps on a pogo stick in one minute (265) in Tompkins Square Park on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Locals can also try qualifying for spots in the next day’s finals.
Then the jumpin’ jocks compete in the XPogo World Championship in Union Square on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., with medals awarded for events including Best Trick (where jumpers attempt challenging back flips and twists).
Intrigued? Learn to pogo in the Public Free Jump zones beside the big competition arenas both days. Free. See xpogo.com. Nicole Lyn Pesce
UP, UP AND AWAY
A fleet of inflatables lifts off this weekend at Solberg Airport in Readington, N.J. One of the balloons in the annual New Jersey Festival of Ballooning will be from a Broadway show famous for “Defying Gravity.”
The 10th Pogopalooza (extreme pogo world championships) hits NYC July 26-28 in Tompkins Square Park and Union Square.
“Since Elphaba sings that ‘everyone deserves the chance to fly,’ ‘Wicked’ has created a signature hot air balloon,” says a spokesman for the musical. Rides, which will lighten your wallet by a tax-deductible $ 250, benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
Trips in the other 125 balloons — from a 105-foot Elvis to an upside down Humpty Dumpty — run $ 200 to $ 225. The mass ascensions lift off at 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. each day through Sunday.
On-the-ground activities include live concerts from Blues Traveler and REO Speedwagon, and shows by Jennifer “The Cannon Lady” Smith. She gets herself fired from a 27-foot cannon three times a day — and gives new meaning to up, up and away. General admission tix are $ 30 at balloonfestival.com. Visit wickedthemusical.com for the Defy Gravity ride. – N.L.P.
