Doctors say it’s especially surprising that the patient woke without any brain damage.
A Colombian man thought fatally stabbed in the heart shocked doctors when he woke up 45 minutes later.
The 39-year-old, who has not been named, was brought into Kennedy Hospital in Bogota after suffering the stab wound.
Medics tried their best to revive him, but he was soon declared officially dead.
However, as the father of three lay cold in his bed 45 minutes later, his heart miraculously started beating again.
“It’s indescribable. We are amazed by this unusual case,” hospital director Juan Ernesto Oviedo told Caracol Radio.
“I can say that in my career as a doctor, I have never seen anything similar,” he added.
Oviedo said it was even more surprising that the patient woke up without any damage to his brain.
“Usually, after 15 minutes of heart inactivity, there is little chance the brain responds, or there is neurological damage. This man is conscious and without brain issues,” the medic said.
It’s unclear when the incident occurred, but Caracol Radio reports that feeding tubes were finally removed from the man’s mouth on Wednesday so that he could talk.
