The mother of this blond-haired, blue-eyed girl found living among gypsies in Greece has been found, according to authorities in Bulgaria.

The mystery of a young blond-haired girl found living in a Roma settlement in Greece is over.

DNA tests show that a Bulgarian woman is the mother of the blue-eyed child, believed to be around 4 or 6 years old, authorities said Friday.

“DNA samples showed that Sasha Ruseva is the biological mother and Atanas Rusev is the biological father of the child called Maria,” Bulgaria’s interior ministry chief of staff Svetlozar Lazarov said, according to AFP.

Sasha Ruseva spoke to local media on Friday. She explained the child was given up four years ago while she was living and working in Greece.

“We gave her, we gifted her, without money,” she told TV7 in Bulgaria, ABC News reported.

Speculation about who the child belonged to has run wild in the media for more than a week. Families from around the globe, including the United States, Canada and parts of Europe, all submitted information in hopes the little girl was their lost loved one.
