A German boy in a permanent vegetative state may lose his best friend — an American Staffordshire Terrier — after authorities claimed it was a dangerous pet.

Tascha snuggles up to the bed-bound boy every day, pulls back his blanket and even licks Dylan’s feet.

“When Tascha lies by him, the boy becomes much calmer and his pulse and breathing relax,” his father Eckhard Gerzmehle told The Local website from the family home close to Berlin.

Kept alive by a life-support machine, Dylan, is 10-years-old and has been in a vegetative state since birth. Tascha was bought by the family six years ago.

But bureaucrats have labeled Tascha a dangerous dog after she bit and injured another dog, according to The Local. The dog must move out or risk being destroyed, claim officials.

The Erna Graf Institute for animal protection has also offered the family its support (VIDEO).

Chairman Eisenhard von Löper said the authorities should back down. “The boy needs Tascha,” he said. Dylan’s parent are set to meet local officials next week.
