The national award, presented in association with the Sunday Express, was in recognition of Robbie’s determination to survive against all odds.

The one-year-old cat suffered severe burns to its head, legs and paws after the dumped sofa he was in was torched in Herne Bay, Kent, in May. An RSPCA officer took him to Broadway Vets where staff feared he would die.

They started a £10,000 appeal for skin grafts and surgery, including a leg amputation. Cash poured in from across the UK.
