RZA met Paul Walker on the set of ‘Brick Mansion’ and they became friends who shared stories about their art and fatherhood. He wrote ‘Destiny Bends’ in dedication to Walker’s life and tragic passing.
The outpouring of grief over Paul Walker’s death is a true testament to how many lives the 40-year-old actor touched.
Wu-Tang Clan member, RZA, had a short lived friendship with Walker that was extremely impressionable and led to the rapper penning a heartfelt song in dedication of the star who tragically died in a car crash Saturday, reports MTV News.
“This song, entitled ‘Destiny Bends,’ was written last night after hearing the tragic news of the loss of a good man named Paul Walker,” the 44-year-old musician wrote on his SoundCloud page.
“I met Paul on the set of the film ‘Brick Mansion,’ where we talked, laughed, and exchanged ideas of life and fatherhood,” he continued.
The melancholy tune begins with RZA’s message to the “Fast & Furious” star.
“Up in the studio last night, writing for myself, I decided to write a song for you,” he said with a piano playing slowing in the background. “Peace brother.”
‘This song, entitled ‘Destiny Bends,’ was written last night after hearing the tragic news of the loss of a good man named Paul Walker,’ RZA wrote on his SoundCloud page.
Singer Will Wells chimes in with the beautiful lyrics, which include: “Every time I think about you / All I see is your smile and your bright blue eyes / Thanks for the times and the smiles you shared with me / How you equally respected my art and talked to me / A young father just learning what it takes to be a man.”
RZA and Walker’s bond became tight through their shared love of parenthood. The New York born rapper, born Robert Fitzgerald Diggs, is a father of two sons and Walker left behind a 15-year-old daughter, Meadow.
He died in a car accident in Santa Clarita, Calif. after the cherry red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT he was a passenger in slammed into a tree and exploded in flames. The driver was Roger Rodas, a pro racer and father of two who owned Always Evolving Performance Motors.
As a police investigation attempting to unravel all the details that led to their tragic deaths continues, reports of a possible high speed competition with another car have surfaced.
Prior to the crash, Walker had taken part in a charity event benefiting the victims of the typhoon in the Philippines.
“May we meet again / Paul my friend,” Wells crooned in the song written by RZA.
“I only knew him personally for less than a year, but we knew each other through our work and art,” the rapper added to his SoundCloud page. “I dedicated my time to compose this song with my two sons and new friend Will Wells. We dedicate it to Paul Walker. A good man. We had plans to continue working with each other in the future. It seemed destined, but ‘destiny bends.'”
