Jeff Bezos, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Amazon.com Inc., reportedly had to be airlifted from a cruise ship on New Year’s Day for abdominal pain.

Amazon.Com founder Jeff Bezos spent his New Year’s Day being airlifted from a cruise in the Galapagos Islands due to pain in his abdomen.

The Ecuadorian Navy brought a helicopter to the cruise ship and took Bezos to an Island on Santa Cruz where he took a private plane back to the U.S. for treatment, according to the El Universo in Ecuador.

He planned to get emergency surgery back in the U.S., the newspaper reported.

Family of the billionaire and new owner of the Washington Post sent a text message to the crew thanking them for their help, El Universo reported.
